106.3 Gram Natural Gold Nugget from McCarthy, Alaska

Although the McCarthy/Kennecott area is celebrated for its early-20th-century copper boom, gold mining also played a role, especially as McCarthy served as a gateway to the Chisana (formerly Shushanna) gold stampede of 1913. Prospectors traveled from McCarthy up McCarthy Creek and across rugged terrain to reach one of Alaska’s most remote and short-lived gold rushes

This natural gold nugget weighs 106.3 grams, almost 3.5 troy ounces. It is just over 2 1/4″ long, 1/4″ thick, and about 1 1/2″ wide. It is from a gold miners estate and was probably mined in the 1980’s or ’90’s.
