Humpback whales are one of the most majestic marine mammals found in Alaska. These large whales can grow up to 16 meters in length and weigh as much as 36,000 kilograms. Every summer, humpback whales migrate from their winter breeding grounds in Hawaii and Mexico to the rich feeding grounds of Alaska’s coastal waters. The nutrient-rich waters provide abundant food. Sources such as krill, herring, and other small fish for the humpback whales to feed on. Humpback whales are known for their acrobatic displays.
