Gold mining has played an important role in Alaska’s history and continues to be a significant industry in the state. The Klondike Gold Rush of the late 1800s brought thousands of prospectors to Alaska in search of fortune, and many of them struck it rich. Today, gold mining in Alaska takes many forms, from large-scale operations to small-scale, artisanal mining. The state is home to numerous mines that produce significant amounts of gold, including the Fort Knox Mine, the Pogo Mine, and the Kensington Mine. The mining industry is closely regulated to ensure environmental sustainability, and many mining companies are committed to minimizing their impact on the environment. This medallion features our famous “Panner Joe” finding the gold he is after.  A natural Alaskan gold nugget is attached to the silver, and gold relief coins. These medallions are available in pure copper, golden bronze, 1 oz .999 fine silver, 1 oz single gold relief (24k plating on the front of the silver coin) and 1 oz double gold relief (24k gold plating on both sides).  We also mint a 2 oz. “Alaska Size” version of this medallion that is a full 2 inches in diameter, it is available in both silver and double gold relief. These come packaged in an airtight container and handsome gift box.  The reverse features our popular “Land of the Midnight Sun” design.
