8.5 Gram Natural Gold Nugget Specs

This beautiful 8.5 gram natural gold nugget was purchased from a miner here in Alaska. The miner found it in Hope, Alaska during the 2021 mining season.

The natural Alaskan gold nugget weighs 5.5 dwt / 8.5 grams (just over 1/4 troy ounce). It is just over 3/4″ long and 1/2″ wide and 1/4″ thick. This nugget comes with a certification book and map showing when and where the gold was found.

Hope, Alaska has a rich history of gold mining dating back to the late 1800s. In 1889, someone discovered gold in the area for the first time. Soon after, miners flocked to the region in search of riches. By the turn of the century, Hope had become a bustling mining town with a population of over 3,000 people. The area around Hope, known as the Resurrection Creek district, was one of the largest gold-producing regions in Alaska in the early 1900s with several large-scale mining operations.

We weigh our nuggets in pennyweight (DWT), where 1 pennyweight equals 1.55 grams, and 20 pennyweights equal 1 troy ounce.
