Natural Alaskan Gold Nugget Pendants

Some of the gold that we buy is made into jewelry, our jeweler has a special way to clean and lightly polish the nuggets to make beautiful, organic pendants. These simple nugget pendants feature a classic 14k split bail. Each pendant comes with an 18″ gold plated chain that is fine for temporary use, we also have a nice selection of 14k yellow gold and 2-tone chains available.  They come packaged in a nice gift box.

Our jeweler weighs the pendants in pennyweight (DWT) they are heavier than grams (1DWT = 1.55 grams)  The nuggets shown are a representation of the size you will receive, since our nuggets are natural, each is one of a kind but they all have a similar color and texture. We use smoother nuggets for our pendants, this gold comes from faster flowing streams and rivers and have traveled further from their mother lode or source

On any given day, local gold miners will come into our shop throughout the year with the gold nuggets they mined that season. We look through their stash and choose the very best nuggets to make into pendants. Miners extract these natural pieces of “placer gold” from the rivers and streams around Alaska and northern  Canada, otherwise known as the “Klondike”. Finding gold nuggets in their natural state is very rare. In fact, gold nuggets constitute only 2% of all found gold. These nuggets themselves will vary in purity from about 75% to 95% pure gold, or 18k-22k. Other minerals, such as silver and platinum, sometimes mix in with these completely natural pieces.

Big machines crush rock in “hard rock mining,” separating small particles of gold, which constitutes most of the gold mined in the world. Large corporations mostly undertake this process as it requires a significant amount of startup money. Placer mining can be done with a shovel and gold pan, this means the average person can be a gold miner.
