Puffins are colorful seabirds that can be found in Alaska, particularly in the Aleutian Islands and the Gulf of Alaska. These birds are known for their distinctive beaks, which are brightly colored during breeding season and used to attract mates. Puffins are excellent swimmers and divers, using their wings to “fly” underwater in search of fish and other prey. Alaska is home to three species of puffins. The horned puffin, the tufted puffin, and the popular Atlantic puffin. They migrate to Alaska during the summer months. Puffins are a beloved sight for birdwatchers and visitors to Alaska’s coastal regions, but like many seabirds, they are threatened by climate change and other environmental factors that affect their food sources and nesting habitats.
