This beautiful 49.7 gram naturally heart shaped gold nugget was mined at Moose Creek, north of Fairbanks, Alaska in the summer of 1998. It was the largest nugget that this miner had found in over 10 years of mining and he wouldn’t sell it until the price of gold hit a record high price over $2000 per ounce! Fairbanks, Alaska, boasts a rich and captivating gold mining history that contributed significantly to the development of the region. In fact, In 1902, the story begins with the discovery of gold in the waters of the Chena River, which sparked a rush of prospectors and settlers to the area. This natural gold nugget weighs 49.7 grams, 1.6 troy ounces. It is about 1.5″ tall, 1.5″ wide, and about 1/4″ thick at the thickest part. The area upstream from this mine was known for hardrock gold and this nugget has a very rugged texture showing that it didn’t travel downstream very far. It comes with a certification book and map showing when and where the gold was found.
