Trapper Creek, Alaska is located near the historic Petersville Mining District, which has a rich history of gold mining. In 1905, someone first discovered gold in the area. One of those including hydraulic mining operations that used water to blast away hillsides in search of gold. Today, the mining industry in the Petersville Mining District has largely shifted to small-scale operations, with miners using methods such as panning and sluicing to extract gold.
