These polar bear claw pendants are capped with whale baleen and walrus ivory. These are larger claws than we normally get from our carver, the medium claws are just over 3 inches tall, and the large are about 4″ tall, they are made by Alaska Native artist Adam Tooyak. Adams father is a whaling captain in Point Hope Alaska where he hunts bowhead whales and polar bear. Native Alaskans hunt these animals for food and use other parts of the animals like the baleen, claws and furs for artistic crafts and jewelry.
