This beautiful 8.7 gram gold nugget was found in McGrath, Alaska during the 2021 mining season. This Natural Alaskan Gold nugget weighs 5.6 dwt / 8.7 grams (little over 1/4 troy ounce). It is 3/4″ long and 1/2″ and about 1/4″ thick. This nugget comes with a certification book and map showing when and where the gold was found.
McGrath, Alaska is another town with a rich history of gold mining. The first discovery of gold in the area was made in 1904, and within a few years, the town had grown into a thriving mining community with a population of around 500 people. In the early years of the 20th century, the mines in McGrath produced millions of dollars’ worth of gold. However, mining in the area declined after World War II.
